Re:

Poor, poor Stuart. Found guilty by most of the crime of DARING to fall in love with our beautiful Felicity. The casting people made sure his character wasn't as good looking as Gus or Sully's writers would have to find a way to kill Gus off. It's not fair to use todays values in place of 1911's. St...

Re: Sara Stanley leaves Avonlea!!

I would place the change in S6, so that is when Sara leaves but also when Gus leaves and Felicity is scaled back. The tone of the show becomes more serious and grown up. I still think there is a balance maintained between the children and adults but now it's with Davey, Dora, Becky and Wiley rather...

Re: Money Value in Avonlea

Oooops, guess my quick search was a little too quick! I didn't even look at the date on top! HistoryMiner, I think that you make a good point about why the cost to replace the roof would be less than we'd expect it to be now, even accounting for inflaton. Using the calculator Shelly provided, the co...

Money Value in Avonlea

Does anyone have an idea of what the relative value of money was in the series? I know in "All that Glitters" they say replacing the church roof would cost $100, which is something that I estimate would now cost $7000-$10,000 (USD). Nat Lester's suit in "A Fox Tale" costs $2.50. Most suits now cost ...

Re: which was the best episode that gus was in?

I think The Dinner and Evelyn. Evelyn may not be one you'd think of right off the bat, but Gus is so smart and generous and wise beyond his years in that episode. I love his conversation with Alec about life's burdens. Gus's outlook on life was inspirational.

Re: 3.2 & 3.3: But When She Was Bad...She Was Horrid

I love the interaction between Sara and Felix and Sara and Gus in these episodes and, for that reason, consider them to be in my top 10-20 episodes. I think the scene where Hetty walks into Sara's room and Felix is wearing the flowery hat is so cute. I thought ZB shined in these episodes and these w...

Re: "The Return of Gus Pike"

I think the issue that Avonlea Fan brings up is definitely one of many problems with this episode. I wanted to like it, but it was so all over the place and the scene at the wharf with Gus and Charlotte...so ridiculous and inappropriate, especially for the time period. There is no way that him feedi...

Re: Gus' fate...

I have to agree, topkapi, that Gus's love for Felicity was often a mystery to me as well. She was so mean in the first 4 seasons and he was such a sweet, gentle soul. Chalk it up to opposites attract? Realistically, I could have seen Gus's character falling in love with someone like Sara (or a young...

Re: What is your most favorite episode and why?

The Dinner has to be my all-time favorite. I loooooved Gus when I was a little girl and just thought this episode was so romantic. And when I watched it as an adult, I was able to appreciate it for different reasons. GZ and MM do such a great job at being awkward and nervous and excited all at the s...

Hannikan, I read your Return to Avonlea story and it was wonderful; I couldn't "put it down"! I loved the storylines you created for all of the characters and you stuck so well to the flavor of the show. I hope KS enlists you to turn it into a script for a new RTA reunion movie!

Hello from a long-time fan

Hi everyone! I have been a fan of the AoGG books and mini-series and RTA since I was a child. I watched RTA when it originally aired on the Disney channel in the early 90s and I've just recently re-visited it thanks to Netflix. Hearing the beautiful music and seeing the shots of PEI transports me ba...
