Best hairstyles

Post by Avonlea Fan » Fri Jun 08, 2007 12:00 pm

We've talked about the "best-dressed people" in Avonlea. What about the hairstyles?

I love Felicity's hairstyles--particularly in the last three seasons. So elegant!

I liked Gus's hair best in seasons 2 and 4--when he kept it short. I didn't like the longer look in the later seasons or the 1980's-early 90's look he sported in "The Return of Gus Pike".

How would men have been wearing their hair in that time period?

No, I'm not a hair stylist and yes, I should get out more.

May I add that long hair or short, Michael Mahonen created one of the most endearing characters on television. The character of Gus Pike, who triumphed over his harsh upbringing, desired to better himself through hard work and education, and was devoted to Felicity through thick and thin, has to tug at the heartstrings of any viewer.

I thought Felicity had the best hair style, Avonlea Fan. Of course, she spent a lot of time talking about hair styles and admiring her own. One of my favorite scenes was when Felicity held the Colloquial (for social betterment or something) and all they talked about were hair styles (French Bob), fashion, and gossip.

I've seen pictures around that time of how men looked, with awful handle bar mustaches and big bushy side burns, and I'm glad they didn't replicate it in the series.

I agree, Timothy.

I don't know that the series would have become a classic had Alec, Gus and Jasper worn bushy mustaches and sideburns.

Sometimes it's better not to be historically correct... :)

I don't think so either, Avonlea Fan. :)

Even Sara's poofy hair in the 1st season seemed like a product of the late 80s.

I agree with you that Felicity had the best hairstyle. In that episode you refer Timothy she even counts how many times she brushes it

I liked Sara's hair in entering prince charming, though.

As for the men I liked Gus hair in "Otherwise engaged" .

I liked Felicity's hair best in the last two seasons and HCMK. I didn't like her S5 hair, with some of it down and some of it up (not counting "Stranger in the Night", natch); I thought it was tacky.

I also liked Izzy's hair in the last two seasons.

As for male hair: Felix's in HCMK.

LOVED Felicity's hair. Certainly she spent enough time thinking about and playing with it to have gorgeous hair. Oh, wouldn't I love to be able to do something like that with mine...

I think that's why it was so funny when Felicity received that hair-loom from Eliza with the scalp fungus. That's probably one of Felicity's worst nightmares.

I haven't seen enough episodes to really say, but from what I have seen I think Olivia, Sara and Felicity. :)

What a fun topic!

I love Sara's hair in 'Comings and Goings.'

Olivia always had great hair. Up or down, it was wonderful.

I loved Felicity's hair the last few seasons. The early seasons, it was too permed. However, in the later ones, especially the 7th season, it was awesome.

If we can include the Anne films in here, I love her hair when she goes to the ball in Anne 2. Actually, I like all her hair styles in Anne 2. Anne 1 I was never crazy about her hair--it was always so poufy for much of the movie. Although I did like it at the end, when she and Diana were talking about how Anne was going away to Redmond.

I think Sarah, by and large looked the worst–all krimped out with no place to go. Sarah Polley often remarked how uncomfortable she was in the wardrobe, and I think it shows (post season 1, she is adorable throughout the first season).

My vote goes to Janet during season 2, she looked fantastic throughout.
