LMM Listed as 57th greatest Canadian

Post by Timothy » Fri Jun 01, 2007 5:43 am

The Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) launched 'The Greatest Canadian' project on April 5, 2004 where people could vote for who they believed was... you guessed it... the greatest Canadian. >Read more

Lucy Maud Montgomery was ranked a lowly #57.

Ahead of LMM were Pamela Anderson (51), Avril Lavigne (40), and Céline Dion (27). Will these three be remembered as highly in a hundred years? I guess only time will tell.

Hmm...I guess that most people don't appreciate the greats and lit. :( Too bad--modern music and movies have replaced literature and books.

I agree. I think that Montgomery should at least be in the top 5. I guess LMM only gets respect when her legacy brings in the tourist money.

LMM should definitely have been higher. Much higher. Maybe not top five, but definitely top ten, IMO.

Haha, Pamela Anderson... I guess LMM won't make it to the top until there's naked photos of her found (that was totally sarcastic). LMM should definitely be higher.

And if they are going to include actors, where is Canadian Mary Pickford? She was one of the greatest actresses of all time. I find it hard to take this list seriously.

As AvonleA suggests ,like most lists of the best of anything, this one seems geared to the "here and now" which (unfortunately) is all that too many people are aware of.

LM. Montgomery definitley deservered to be placed higher on the list. She should of been in the top 10 at the very least maybe even top5. I think L.M. Montgomery needs and should be celebrated more for her greatness, her legacy and her success.
