Has anyone seen Anne with An E? What are your thoughts about this series?
Do you think it's better than the Sullivan adaptations of Anne of Green Gables?

Hello all. I am really enjoying Anne With an E. It's a very realistic portrayal of the Victorian time period and quite frankly, I don't understand all the criticism. Walley-Becket is simply showing the history that has been oppressed by decades of anti-LGBTQ sentiment, bigotry and misogyny. There are already four gay characters represented and they haven't even gotten to the love affair between Anne and Diana yet.

I watched the Sullivan films recently and I am very disappointed. I can't understand why these films from the 80s are so popular, as well as the spin off Avonlea Disney show. I agree with Sarah Polley that these Sullivan renditions are a "white man's fantasy." There is not one representative from the LGBTQ community in these films and the people are very close minded. Can anyone explain why the Sullivan films are so appealing?

I think Sullivan's first two Anne of Green Gables films were trying to capture the spirit and atmosphere of the original books, without politicizing the works. I'm not an expert on the Victorian or Edwardian eras, but I don't think a lot of the behavior in 'Anne With An E' was publicly accepted.

Not seen yet and possibly will not because the beginning of 3rd AoGG film shows me that it is "not for me". I'm awared of 4th film AoGG and AwAE but tried not to see them. First two AoGG films are enough for me, together with Avonlea series.

There is a strangeness in simple things.

I love it. Amybeth McNulty is wonderful. I did nt think anyone could equal Meagan Follows but she is close. I am not bothered by how different or realistic it is, i think the realism adds dimension to all the Characters and "gives scope to the imagination" to tell these stories in a fresh way. I hope it continues.

I completely agree MsMoneypenny. Amybeth McNulty is a wonderful actress and I think she is actually better than Meagan Follows. I haven't seen the entire series yet, but I'm hoping they continue the beautiful relationship between Anne and Diana. The way this series is going I think these two might marry and run a farm next to Green Gables.
